Where Minecraft fonts actually work (and where they don’t)

Minecraft’s in-game chat and the sign editor use the game’s own bitmap font, which only draws a limited character set — most fancy Unicode shows up as missing-glyph boxes in vanilla Java and Bedrock chat. Where styled text does stick is anything the operating system renders: your entry in the server list, Realms and world names, resource-pack names, and the Discord or forum where your community hangs out. Copy fancy styles for names and listings, and keep actual in-game chat plain so everyone can read it.

§ colour codes vs Unicode fonts

Minecraft has its own formatting system using the section sign § followed by a code — §l for bold, §o for italic, §6 for gold and so on — which works on signs, server MOTDs and books. That recolours or reweights the normal game font; it is completely separate from the Unicode styles here, which change the letter shapes themselves. Use § codes for colour on servers you control, and use these copy-paste Unicode styles wherever § isn’t supported, such as usernames, social posts and Discord.
