How Morse code works

Morse code represents each letter and number as a unique sequence of short signals (dots, “·”) and long signals (dashes, “−”). In text form, a space separates letters and a forward slash “/” separates words. It was designed for telegraph and radio, where simple on/off signals travel reliably over long distances.
