Minecraft Text: Color Codes and Fancy Names

How Minecraft’s § color codes work, plus fancy copy-paste names for servers and signs.

Minecraft’s built-in formatting codes

In Minecraft, colours and styles are set with the section sign “§” followed by a code — for example §c for red, §l for bold, §o for italic. These work in many server contexts (signs, chat plugins, server names) where § codes are supported, and are reset with §r.

Fancy Unicode names

For display names and server lists, you can also paste Unicode font styles (bold, gothic, monospace) to stand out. Minecraft’s own pixel font isn’t available as Unicode, so generators provide close copy-paste alternatives.

FAQ

How do I make colored text in Minecraft?+

Use the section sign “§” plus a colour code (like §a for green) where the server allows formatting codes, and §r to reset back to default.
